Different Types of Power Boats
There are many different types of power boats and the one you choose will need to be just right for your needs. To choose a power boat you really need to make a list of all the different features you would like as well as the different things you intend to do with it. For instance, if you want to go deep-sea fishing you will need a different kind of power boat than if you wanted to go for a lazy ride up the river. A boat meant to tow a water-skier will be different again. So here are a few of the different types of power boats to start you off on your search.
- A dinghy with a two or four-stroke motor. These can carry about 3 people and are made of wood, aluminium or fibreglass. They are good sheltered lakes or bays but uncomfortable for a long distance.
- Inflatables. These can be small or much bigger - the bigger ones are quite strong. They have no shelter so are not what you would choose for Open Water or a long haul.
- A power catamaran is both large and sturdy. This type of powerboat can hold up to ten people and is easy to drive. Its stability comes from the two hulls connected by the decking. They come in various sizes; the biggest being around 50 ft long.
