How to round a cue tip?
My pool cue's tip is now "mushroom" as the others call me. meaning it is flat. And i dont know how to shape it into a round shape. Please help me out. And does anyone know hot it helps to have a round tip instead of flat?
1) Start with a GOOD hard leather tip on your cue (of course you'll have to rough it up so it will hold chalk) You may have to shape it too.
Whenever you're finished playing, "burnish" the tip (every time you're finished for the day, or even between sessions; depending on the shape/quality/life of your cue tip). I burnish my tips, by simply using my own saliva and a piece of hard paper (a piece of a standard business card or a matchbook cover will work nicely). Apply a small amount of saliva to your fingertip. Then apply it all around the base of the tip (between the base of the tip and the ferrule). Then fold the paper into a Vee shape. Apply it snugly to the edge of the tip where it meets the ferrule. Squeeze tightly as you work the tip and shaft in a circular motion. Squeeze tight! Go all the way around the tip. You will see that it has "burnished" the edge of your tip to be flush with the ferrule. If your mushroomed tip isn't too far gone, you can use this process to 'bring it back up'. I learned this technique from a pro player and cue maker. I've seen countless seasoned players use this technique.
2) Avoid flattened tips, you will not strike the cue ball where you have aimed to hit its surface as you will with a round tip!
