The Common Dangers of Swimming Pools

The pool area is always wet. And as we all know, water and electricity does not mix well. This is a life threatening danger that should be taken seriously. If that's so, maybe it's time to call in a professional electrician to check on those wires. Make sure that everything is in order, and that there are no leaks.

Slippery decks.

This is another common danger that is associated with swimming pools. As time passes, the decks become more and more slippery due to algae growth. Therefore, decks should be washed regularly to remove the algae. If you like, you can also apply a coat of special sealer to help prevent algae growth.

Slippery decks are very dangerous especially for children. They may slip and fall into the pool while running around the poolside. For private pools, since there are no lifeguards around, safety alarms should be installed. In the event that someone falls into the pool accidentally, an alarm in the house goes off and someone can respond as quickly as possible.

Ladders and stairs.

Ladders and stairs in swimming pools are what we use for getting out of or into the pool. So if ladders or railings become loose, someone may slip and fall while climbing out of the pool. Ensure that all screws are tightened and make sure that the ladders do not shift when under the full weight of an adult.

Water quality.

Neglected swimming pools tend to contain contaminated water. Bacteria or harmful chemicals may be thriving in poor quality water. Such harmful elements may cause injury to the eyes or the skin. For example, a swimmer not wearing goggles while swimming may run into the risk of eye infection.

Floats in the pool.

Floats in the pool look really innocent sitting in the water. However, small children may climb into the floats, thinking that it's fun to laze around inside. But children don't really know how to balance the float properly. As a result, the float may tip over, and the children risk drowning.

There are many other dangers that are associated with the seemingly harmless swimming pool. So if you own a pool, it is always wise to perform regular checks on the pool to make sure that there are no hidden dangers. Even small little items like diving boards or toys may be possible hazards by the pool side. So be proactive and remove them, and leave nothing to chance. After all, lives are at stake.
