Golf Club Shaft Importance - 3 Important Facts
When you are new to the sport you probably feel that all that is required is practice and equipment does not play a big role in the final outcome. Nothing could be further from the truth, and what you know about your equipment will help you use it better. The shafts of your clubs are one of the things you need to take exceptional care of in the kit. If you change your shafts you will change your game, and that is an example of the level of dependency any player of the sport has on his equipment. But it’s not that easy to select the right shafts out of the huge variety available on the markets. Here are a few tips to help you decide which shaft would best suit your need.
1. The shaft is the power generator
In many ways the clubs shafts are like power generators of the shot. Simple physics tells us that the longer the shaft the harder the shot, and add a bit of flex to it and you have a complicated engine at work. When you know your club well, you will be able to visualize the effect it will have keeping in mind the power that you release with the swing.
2. Clubs that use a steel shaft
Steel is one of the strongest materials and clubs with steel shafts are extremely durable. They keep your shots straight as they are the least flexible. However other materials like graphite tend to bend a bit when you swing the club so they create a greater distance in your shots. Stepped and rifled are the varieties of steel shafts available on the market at present. The rifled versions are more advanced and thereby cost a little bit more as well.
3. Shafts made of different materials
Other than steel, players tend to use a lot of graphite shafts on their clubs. Women tend to use this material more than men, as graphite releases more power in comparison to steel. These shafts are however a bit more expensive than steel. Graphite also weighs much less than steel so these shafts are easier to swing and produce less reverb as well. Titanium shafts are the latest on the market and we do know they are strong and lightweight.
The shaft of your club is what generates the power of your shot, so pay the due attention to your shafts. The more you know about the shaft the greater will be your accuracy in selecting the right ones for your needs, and therefore the efficiency of your game will improve as well. A well informed golfer is a better golfer.
