Nascar Tickets - Keselowski, Edwards Duke It Out In Atlanta

Carl Edwards is the subject of NASCAR media fodder this week, as his fiery temper got the best of him at the March 7 Kobalt Tools 500 in Atlanta. After being hit underneath unintentionally early in the race by Brad Keselowski, a young Cup Series driver with a reputation for aggressive driving, Edwards sailed into Joey Logano and spent the next hour in the garage, starting again 156 laps down with one goal in mind: to wreck Brad Keselowski.

Seeking revenge was fresh on Carl Edwards' mind as he hopped back onto the track to finish the March 7 race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, and when Edwards finally got into position behind Keselowski on the 1.5-mile track, he deliberately nudged the rear of Keselowski's No. 12 car, sending him flying in an airborne crash that launched his car into a top-down spin onto the track and back over. Keselowski, who was running in the Top 10 at the time, wasn't hurt in the senseless act, but he certainly could have been.

Walking off of the track to get checked out by medics, Keselowski kept his cool as he spoke to the media, with NASCAR reporting the young driver's words after the race: "To come back and intentionally wreck someone, that's not cool – you could have killed someone in the grandstands. It will be interesting to see how NASCAR reacts to it. They have the ball. If they're going to allow people to intentionally wreck each other at tracks this fast, we will hurt someone either in the cars or in the grandstands. It's not cool to wreck someone intentionally at 195 mph."

Though a few drivers called for a suspension thrown Edwards' way after the race, which he was parked for following the Keselowski wreck, NASCAR simply gave Edwards a slap on the wrist in the week after the Atlanta race, putting him on probation for three successive races. To some NASCAR fans and drivers, this OK is a "have at it" attitude from NASCAR officials to the league's drivers that makes it acceptable for drivers to intentionally and maliciously go after other drivers they might have issues with.

Some drivers are also expressing outrage at the thought of Edwards getting preferential treatment because of his legacy in stock car racing. A few Sprint Cup Series drivers went on a Twitter rampage after NASCAR reached its three-race probation verdict, with Kevin Harvick going as far as to tweet: "huh! surprised by the lack of penalty there… I'm thinkging [sic] about asking for a refund for all of my penalties!!!!" and Kyle Busch responding to Harvick's tweet with: "Me too! Let me kno [sic] how that goes. Lmao."

It's clear that there's bad blood between Keselowski and Edwards, and the Atlanta race wasn't the first time these two Sprint Cup Series drivers were involved in a showdown on the racetrack. Racing fans with NASCAR tickets to last year's Talladega race had a shocking experience when Carl Edwards' No. 99 car went soaring into the catch fence on the track, with debris from the airborne car injuring eight spectators in the grandstands.

The accident was triggered by Brad Keselowski, who attempted to pull a final pass over Edwards with one lap to go in the race. Edwards attempted a block at Keselowski but executed it too late, with Keselowski bumping his car sideways into the path of Ryan Newman, who catapulted Edwards into arguably the biggest accident of the year.

After the race, Edwards placed no blame on rookie Keselowski for making the race-winning move, telling NASCAR.com, "Brad did a great job. Congrats to him on the win…" Edwards went on to criticize NASCAR's policy on the safeness of the Talladega track, but the Keselowski/Edwards tiff was seemingly over.

This year it's started back up again, and Carl Edwards took things into his own hands to let Brad Keselowski know he doesn't appreciate his over-aggressiveness on the track. While Edwards spends the next three races on probation, NASCAR fans will continue taking sides on the perils of stock car racing.
