Sports Goggles Skiing
Sports Goggles Skiing
I want to learn how to snowboard/ski. can anyone suggest to me what equipment i SHOULD get and what i'll NEED?
i know that your board/skis should only be a certain height to you right? well i'm 5'9. what size should i get? clothes? helmet? goggles? i am asking the yahoo community cause if i walk into a sporting good store they're gonna take me for all i'm worth. i would like to walk in knowing what i need and what i can refuse. I am starting completley from scratch. i don't even have snow boots. help?
alright... lots of questions...
FIRST: make sure you like the sport and go to a mountain and rent the board/skis (they will come with bindings) and boots on the mountain. this will allow you to make sure you like the sport and allow you to get a sense of the equipmet you like. these two sports are huge and have a very large selection of gear with a huge difference in price. you want to rent before you buy, i cannot stress that enough. clothes ill talk about later and a helmet can be rented on the mountain.
i could write a page on practically any of these things you asked about so please email me with questions at speakerguy1257@yahoo.com
Sizes: (if renting they will take care of sizes when you fill out the rental form)
Board: up to your chin (lots of different sizes probably around 155ish
with a board you also need bindings and boots which depend on your foot size
Skis: up to your nose... id say either 150cm or 160cm
with skis you will also need bindings and boots and poles
Clothes:
Base layer: something light and breathable. most people use long underwear. i use marino wool (shirt) and jeans (jeans are a bad idea unless you know you are comfortible doing that
Mid Layer: (Optional) sweat shirt
Outter layer: A Hardshell jacket and Snow pants
Socks: thin wool socks that go up to the knee
Shoes: either snowboard boots or ski boots
Misc: hat that covers your ears
helmet: about $50 for the basic helmet or a few dollars to rent (more expencive ones will have speakers in the ears and whatnot) i only wear one when im doing tricks on my board but that is your decision
goggles: basically you get what you pay for... for $20 you will get basic goggles that will fog up if you sweat at all.
with price comes a better product but less cash in your pocket
if you plan on renting you will still need the clothes and goggles... the equipment you can rent at the mountain or at a nearby rental place
you really cannot learn enough about this sport to effectivly buy equipment (board, skis, boots) without first trying it out on the mountain.
if you go into a sports shop even with what i have told you now and shop for a board or skis you will be taken for a ride. just go in and get the clothing and the goggles.
